Orvis has been making their Clearwater rods and reels for years upon years now, and while the name hasn't changed, the rods and reels sure have. 

Orvis Clearwater rods were the "lodge rods" that we used 20 years ago at the fly fishing lodge that I started out at.  Most of our clients made their first fly casts on a Clearwater rod, and those outfits took a beating year after year.  Not much has changed in that regard.  Clearwaters are the go-to setups for guides and lodges across the country still.

While Orvis Clearwater has always made great rods and reels for beginners, budget-conscious anglers and spare rods, today's Clearwater rods are much the same.  One thing that has changed is that anglers of all levels and budgets are using the new Clearwaters every day.  The improvements in actions and designs are raising the bar on what a "cheapy" rod is supposed to be. 

The action on each model has been adjusted to fit the angling style appropriate for each model.  For example, the 3 and 4 wt models have a softer action that the bigger models.  The 3wt is a sweet little stream rod that has great delicacy and presentation, while the 8wt is quite a bit faster and makes a really nice salmon/steelhead rod.

These rods have nice looks, good feel and quality components.  No cheap plastic reel seats or bulky, uncomfortable cork.   Just a clean looking rod with good performance and a great price tag.

The Clearwater reels are a good looking reel that fits the style and looks of the Clearwater rods really well.  These reels are a large arbor design, with a good disc drag system and a strong powder-coating finish.  They are an economical way to outfit a rod without spending a ton of money.  They are built as well as a die-cast reel can be.  Strong, good drag, good looks, it is what we are all looking for in a reel.  

This line of rods and reels is great because it lets people get into fishing, or new styles of fishing without costing an arm and a leg.  You are getting quality equipment that will be fun to fish no matter what your experience level.  The best part is that when you pair up the rod and reel into a combo, you save big $$$. 

So now that trout angler can try steelhead fishing, the Northerner can get a setup for that family vacation to Florida or that bass fisherman can pick up that new little trout rod without worrying about blowing the monthly budget.  The Orvis Clearwater line has been providing anglers with these same great opportunities for many years now, and the latest iteration is one of the best performing values on the market.
