The original Redington Dually was easily our best selling spey rod, and for good reason.  It was easy to cast, an especially nice rod for beginners to learn on because it was very forgiving to mistakes and timing issues.  The new Redington Dually II follows in the footsteps of the original, with a few improvements to boot.

Original Dually had a basic seat/handle

The first major upgrade is in the reel seat and handle.  The original Dually had a basic real seat and handle.  All cork, nothing fancy.  The cork was not the exactly of high quality.  The seat, handle and cork all made it look really cheap.  That is ok, because it was the most affordable spey rod widely available when it was introduced.

The new Dually II features a nice, smooth cork handle with composite grip and a decent reel seat, much nicer than the original.  It feels more comfortable in the hand than the original, and it looks much more impressive.  The overall finish has a bit of a retro feel, nice earthy tones with a font on the rod straight out of the Great Gatsby.

Dually II has an upgraded seat/handle

The new Dually II starts with a little 10'6" 3wt trout model and ranges up to a 13'6" 8wt.  The models are all reasonable lengths for their intended purposes, from swinging soft hackles up to dredging deep for King Salmon.

There is also special edition purple 11'6", 12'6" and 13'6" 7wt models.  I want to believe that it is a Northwest Special, go UW Huskies! It look pretty darn cool. 

The rods do cast well, which is the important thing.  The new Dually II has definitely added some backbone to the bottom part of the rod, while maintaining the nice and easy casting feel of the old model.  Like the previous model, it casts just fine with a nice medium tempo.  It does not feel tip-heavy, which means you should be able to cast it all day without feeling too worn out.

This rod is definitely not high end.  It never claims to be.  It lacks feel and response, and is a little bit sloppy, but that is because of the price tag and the manufacturing associated with that price tag.  There is no rod under $300 that is going to be any better, and we have cast just about all of them.  This rod performs as well as the price tag would indicate, but it certainly looks a bit nicer than you would think considering that price.  The new Dually II will likely be our best selling two handed rod for the next couple of years.  Combo it up with a reel and line to save all sorts of money.
