Rio has once-again come up with a new "niche" line that is just about perfect for the scenario which it was intended. This is not a general purpose fly line. It is built to throw smaller dry flies with incredible accuracy and precision. It does that very well. It replaces the long-time favorite Trout LT line from RIO that did the job for so many years. The Technical Trout has a shorter front taper (10') than the Trout LT did (20'). The taper will still let you present the most delicate fly with precision. It is built to handle those 12'-15' leaders and sensitive tippets. It should do a bit better in the wind than the LT and it should have that excellent accurate delivery that the LT was known for.
The long back taper will allow for great loop control, tight casts and less effort. This is the major improvement over the Trout LT, which had a pile of weight in the back that made casting at distances a major chore, making some rods sluggish when trying to make that long cast when it counts. This line has a good grain window that should cast well on slower rods as well as rods that lean on the the faster side of that ever-popular Medium/Fast range where most rods fall today, but we always recommend getting a presentation rod if you are going to get into technical trout fishing.
This line is available with the traditional core, or with their ConnectCore technology.
Check out this sweet new line from Rio before you head out on your next spring creek trip!
