Lance from WA sends this picture after a float trip with friends, this nice trout was caught with a Morrish Hopper. Fishing big foam flies is one of our favorite things to do at Big Y. They are highly visible, float high, and don't require floatants. Additionally they make great candidates for hopper/dropper setups. Don't just limit yourself to when big honking grasshoppers are in the area. Many stonefly and hex hatches can be successful fished with Fat Alberts and Chernobyl patterns.
Jake sent us this picture awhile ago after he stocked his box before heading to the Valle Vidal in NM. Making sure you are properly stock before a trip is key. Being that we work in the Fly Fishing business there should be no excuse for not having items we need, but I can't tell you how many times I have gotten to the river only to find out I was missing a fly or strike indicators or split shot or new leaders. Having a checklist and going through your gear the night before can be the difference between having a great trip and a trip of what ifs.

Fly fishing, like all things, runs through fades from time to time and right now streamers are in. We have a few theories as to why streamers are so popular now. One: Fish are over-pressured and not responding to the standard dries and nymphs. Two: When the weather is too hot or too cold it is harder to get fish to move to a fly, bigger flies are more tempting. Three: They are fun to fish and usually result in bigger than average fish. If you have yet to hop on the streamer craze you should. Start small with a few classics (ie: woolly buggers, muddler minnows, etc) and grow from there.
Ryan from NY caught this monster brown trout on a Woolly Bugger. In case you didn't read above, streamers can be the ticket, especially in big brown country. The classic Woolly Bugger has hands down brought more fish to the net than any other streamer out there.
