Jeff caught this big bow on the Raven Fork in NC, while using a red Beadhead Copper John size 18. Often when a traditional fly isn't working, switching up the size and/or color can be a key to success. When you believe your fly should be working, and it isn't, try throwing on a different size and color.

Harrison with a striped Bass, caught on a Skull Mini-Sunfish when fishing a back creek on Long Island. It is important to keep in mind that you don't have to make that 3 hour drive to the best fishing spot to get into the fish. Many times waters right outside your backdoor can hold fish, and take flies, even if you don't see people doing so.

Dalton caught this nice rainbow on a Beadhead Kaufmann Stone Rubber Legs. When Dalton sent over this picture it was included with multiple others, all the fish were caught on the same fly. When in the peak of a hatch, one fly can be the fly that produces the most fish. It is important to know which flies have been most successful for you in the past, and to make sure you have your box stocked with them (and a few new patterns just in case). Last thing any of us want is to be on the water and lose the last fly that has been the most productive.

Jeffery sent over this picture he took of his grandson, Max, with a brookie he caught at the local pond on a Hare's Ear. In a time when video games, tv, and the internet have enough entertainment to keep one occupied for years, it is important to make sure to stay connected to nature and the world around. Fishing in particular is a great way to do that, and a great way to instill love for the environment, and a passion for the outdoors in young kids. If you get them hooked into a couple of fish you might find that they will have finally found something more exciting than Pokemon Go.
