Fishing with dry flies can be one of the most exhilarating experiences in fly fishing. Seeing a big trout jump out of the water at your fly is quite a sight, and there is always that split second moment (that can at times seen like an eternity) where the fisherman wonders did the hook get set? Is the fight on? Once you realize a fish is on the real battle begins, but to me that split second moment is really the exciting part. Charles has able to entice this big brown with a Turks Tarantula, you can bet seeing this fish come out of the water was quite a sight. Landing the fish and having a picture to prove it is even better.

Every winter Big Y offers an assortment we call the "Trout Grab Bag", this assortment contains a wide variety of trout flies. They allow a fly fisherman a great opportunity to try out some new patterns that otherwise would have been passed up. Rob opted to purchase a Big Y Grab Bag and in it received a Eggo pattern. Sure enough this pattern got him into a nice trout. For a chance to look at some different patterns be sure to keep an eye out for the Big Y Trout Grab Bag this winter. It starts at $10.95 and includes 36 flies containing some you have seen before and some completely new.

Brown trout are probably the most aggressive of all the freshwater trout species. They are extremely territoriality and readily attack anything resembling a "threat." Making a streamer pattern the most effective type of pattern to catch this guys. In recent years a lot of new streamer patterns have been developed in order to entice these big brutes. Things like the Sex Dungeon, Circus Peanut, and Drunk N' Disorderly are all newish flashy baitfish patterns that have proven to be fairly productive. However, the simple truth is more often than not the traditional pattern is what will work in unexplored waters. John was able to entice this beautiful brown with a simple Beadhead Woolly Bugger. A legendary pattern that is tied in just about every color combination possible. Woolly Buggers are a great go to pattern when you know fish will be targeting baitfish, sculpins, or leeches. A large selection of both colors and sizes is a must for any brown trout enthusiast.

Midges and tricos are often found to be intimidating to many novice fly fishermen. They are small making them more difficult to tie onto a leader, and even harder to set the hook correctly. While this tiny flies can be a hassle, the simple truth is fish love midges and in some areas they can make up to 22% of a trouts diet. Marcus, a seasoned fly guy, was able to snap a great shot of this trout who readily gobbled down a Beadhead Curved Zebra Midge. Just goes to show that more often than not small is the way to go for trout.
