Randy was out fishing the Blackfoot River in MT, he was using a 5 weight rod and 5X tippet going after trout. He was fishing a hopper dropper setup and hooked into a rainbow. Next thing he knew a monster bull trout got hooked on his dropper. After a long fight he was able to get this monster reeled in. Just goes to show anything can happen on the water, and experience can be the difference between losing a fish and making the story of a lifetime.
Patrick is a regular at Big Y and has submitted pictures to us before. As an avid fisherman weather doesn't stop him and he knows that even in the dead of winter, with snow coming down and covering the banks, the fish are in the water and still biting. The landed this bad boy, and a couple of others on a day where conditions were less than ideal. Having the right gear can make even the most brutal days of fishing into ones that become the most productive. With less people on the water, and less pressure on the fish, one can have a great day on the water.
Many trout guys have their go to flies, they tend to be dry flies or a nymph of some sort. Streamers tend to be an after thought, however when there are big browns in the water they are a must! Steve here caught this monster 28 inch brown on a hare scuplin. Browns are more territorial than your typical rainbow which results in aggressive strikes anytime they feel like their territory is being invaded. If you're feeling like changing things up, be sure to stock up on a handful of streamers and head to the nearest river with browns in it, you won't be disappointed.
Taking your kids fishing can be one of the most rewarding moments during parenthood. Franky sent in this photo of his son with a nice 16 inch rainbow. Fly fishing is a great activity for children, it gets them outside and away from videos games and social media. It teaches them patience that can only be truly understood after many casts with no action. For kids how aren't able to wait long periods of time with no action, we highly suggest taking them in the peak of your local hatches. That will help insure success and avoid the "This is boring" dialog.
