In the depths of your favorite streams ancient internal clocks of insects and fish are beginning to tick just a little faster. Metabolisms are starting to increase in anticipation of warmer water temperatures. Species will begin to move, then feed, then reproduce.

Likewise in houses across the country fly fisherman are unburying their gear, doing maintenance on their reels, checking their inventories of fly boxes. In their own way just as eager anticipation of the coming spring. Of course there is fishing to be had right now. But there is a lot more right around the corner.

If you haven't fished in quite awhile, take you rod outside and hone your casting stroke. Nothing like some concerted practice to get a jump start on the early season.
